Pregnancy and Birth Care:
Caroline with husband Mark laboring in tub.
"I met Kay’a in the early spring of 2009 when she came to live in the same house as my husband and I. I was still earning my undergraduate degree at the time, and had just found out that I was pregnant. Needless to say, I had no idea what was happening to my body, or what was going to happen at the end of nine months! Although Kay’a originally came to the farm as an intern, it became very clear that we were intentionally put in each other’s path to focus on the coming birth of little Cecilia. Our time together was truly blessed. Kay’a was just an open book of information and knowledge about not only the physical aspect of pregnancy but the deep spiritual and emotional realms as well, and as such was able to offer both my husband and I incredible preparation for our new little one. Her extensive experience both in the classroom and in the birthing room was evident in every conversation we had (and there were many!) and her deep connection with birthing mothers was a source of great comfort for me in times of uncertainty. Although Kay’a had clearly spent hundreds of hours reading and researching birth, she never once made me feel like I was in a classroom. Her demeanor was always one of respect and interest to both my husband and I, whether we spoke to her together, or one on one. I was truly blessed to have been able to learn so much from her in my nine pregnant months, and my husband too felt as though he was an expert on the mechanics of pregnancy and birth by the time our baby came! We now have our second child on the way, and thanks to Kay’a’s time and effort the first time around I feel more prepared than ever for the coming months. Kay’a is still a very dear friend to this day. I am so deeply thankful for her beautiful spirit to have touched our family, and her true dedication to sharing the wonder of birth."

Postpartum Care:
Mama Sarah and little Zephyr at Yoga class.
"Kay’a’ s help was indispensable when Zephyr was a newborn. I am so grateful for the housecleaning, cooking, childcare and doggy care that she provided. It was an absolute pleasure to have her in my home as well. Her presence is uplifting. She has a joyful, caring, and playful spirit that brought energy and calm simultaneously. I desperately needed the company and Kay’a so obligingly filled my afternoons with stories of her adventures and interests—I’ m not sure if she knew how much she was helping me keep my sanity, or she just intuited that was what I needed. She is a natural with children. It was such a comfort to have a little time to myself and return to find her holding a sleeping contented Zephyr, lulled to sleep by soft singing. My husband came home once while Kay’a was singing to Zephyr, and decided to wait for nearly an hour to greet the baby (and relieve Kay’a) because he was so enchanted by her voice. (Sorry about that Kay’a!) The first months of raising a child are so overwhelming, but having Kay’a around just a couple of hours a week made an enormous difference in my stress level and happiness. I recommend her without hesitation. She is a beautiful person who brings light to those she touches."

Mama Alison and Papa Bruce with Malcolm at home.
"We always looked forward to the days Kay'a came
to our house. She has a sunny smile and fit in so easily with whatever
was happening that day. Our baby was very relaxed and happy as she
danced and rocked and sang to him so Mom could take a shower or practice
a little yoga or nap. She was generous and good-natured about helping
out with housework or garden projects or just keeping me company with a
cup of tea after a sleepless night. Honestly, my garden and my yoga
practice were both much better tended while she was visiting us!"

Classes and Workshops:
"Kay'a
moved, talked, taught, listened, observed with such focus and knowing
of herself that I couldn't help but be influenced by her radiating
presence. She is a sunrise that I enjoy observing like a flower. She let
me see myself in all of her passion and knowledge. I continue to think
of Kay'a and her presence at Earthdance and its' garden....how I long
for her knowledge of the garden and her presence inside it!!! I was
never intimidated by her knowledge-I only wanted all that she lovingly
had to share."
